The total area of Vietnam is derived from 310,070 sq km of land, and 21,140 sq km of water. Vietnam's land boundaries are 4,639 km long, sectioning off the country from Cambodia, China, and Laos. The coastal boundaries cover a total area of 3,444 km bordering the Gulf of Thailand, Gulf of Tonkin, and South China Sea. Vietnam has a large variety of climates due to the monsoons. It has a tropical feel in the south; monsoonal in the north with hot, rainy season (May to September) and warm, dry season (October to March). The terrain of Vietnam is defined with a low, flat delta in south; central highlands, hilly, and mountainous in far north and northwest . The highest point of elevation in Vietnam is Fan Si Pan, and the lowest point is South China Sea.
